E-MAILED E-RECEIPTS

E-receipts are sent to the customer acknowledging receipt and processing of their order. The e-receipt includes all billing and shipping information (except credit card number). The receipt also optionally contains:

the user's userid & password
payload download instructions (if the product is being electronically delivered).

The e-mailed is in addition to a printable e-receipt which is offered online after the order has been processed.

It is strongly recommended that you retain the cc: copy of every customer e-receipt. These copies can be used as backup records of sales.

E-Mail E-Receipt Types

There are two types of E-Receipts: ASCII TEXT ONLY or HTML WEB BASED. The ASCII TEXT ONLY e-receipts are described in detail below. The HTML WEB BASED e-receipts are sent out as an abbreviated ASCII TEXT ONLY email which contains a link to a printable HTML web page which contains all order information except.

HTML WEB BASED e-receipts are enabled by setting RECEIPT PAGE = Store.PEReceipt.asp.

Customizing ASCII TEXT E-Mail E-Receipts

Two entries in the JSOF.config file can be used to customize parts of the top half of e-mail acknowledgement messages (RECEIPT ACKNOWLEDGMENT SUBJECT and RECEIPT ACKNOWLEDGMENT MESSAGE).

RECEIPT ACKNOWLEDGMENT SUBJECT: sets the e-mail subject line
RECEIPT ACKNOWLEDGMENT MESSAGE: is text that is inserted as part of the message body. The default value for this text is:

"We will send you e-mail to confirm when your order has shipped,\n
giving you the Fedex tracking number and the ability to track\n
the shipment's "up-to-the-moment" progress and process!\n
Please come visit us again at http://www.mycompany.com"

This text can be changed to anything you want. New line feeds can be embedded in the message by inserting the escape code '\n' (see above sample text). This text message is inserted into the acknowledgement e-mail at the location shown below in the "sample confirmation e-mail message."

This text should be just a few sentences (limited to 1000 characters including spaces). The special formatting character "\n" and "\t" are processed into a New Line (CRLF) and (TAB) respectively.

The following varables are replaced with values from the current order:

[ORDERNUMBER] is replaced with the order number
[NAME] is replaced with the full name from the billing information.

Note: A copy of this confirmation e-mail will be sent to all e-mail addresses added to the "cc:" list in the store front config file. In addition a copy of this e-receipt can (optionally) be sent to Dealer who recieve commission on this order (see Dealer CC)

E-Mail acknowledgments can be formatted in three ways... Long Format, Short Format, and Domain Name Format (configuration settings). The difference between Long & Short is whether individual shipping addresses are printed for each item. Long format is something useful for gift giving (i.e. many gifts to different people). Short format is the more common setting which lists only a single shipping address. Also, in short format the shipping address is omitted if there is nothing to ship. This can occur in two ways: (a) The entire order is electronically delivered with payloads or (b) The charges where declined.

Examples of both long & short formats are included below.

Hint: Do not forget to set the Order Form Entry mode to match Long or Short formats.

Domain Name Format is a special case format which should only be selected if SendSafe is being used to process the sale of domain names.

Below are examples of the e-receipts (both long format and short format).

Text which is configurable is highlighted in yellow and text which is configurable and can include variables is highlighted in green.

A sample of "SHORT FORMAT" confirmation e-mail message looks something like this:
