- API
- (A)pplication (P)rogramming (I)nterface. The set of operating system function calls that
a program uses when running under the control of an operating system.
- ASP
- (A)ctive (S)erver (P)ages. This is a Microsoft
technology that generates html web pages on-the-fly as the browser downloads
them. This is powerful technology which is widely used to create web sites
that are constantly changing and (or) present uniquely custom web pages to
each visitor.
- B2B
- Business to Business Internet commerce.
This term includes both actual Internet commerce as well as sharing of
information such as inventory levels and material resource planning. The
biggest difference between B2B and B2C commerce is that B2B commerce
involves payment terms and credit applications where B2C is typically credit
card purchasing.
- B2C
- Business to Consumer Internet commerce.
This term is used to describe Internet commerce between a business and a
consumer.
- CAD
- (Computer) (A)ided (D)esign: A computer system which aids engineers and scientists and
artists. Graphical drawing programs are the best known variant of this class of software.
The level of automation can be very high allowing novice engineers to perform work that
once required years of training.
- CID
- (C)harge (I)njection (D)evice: A CID array is a device used to measure the intensity of
light. Physically the CID is an array of light sensitive semiconductor junctions embedded
in a silicon substrate. The CID array can measure optical images projected across its
surface. This image can then be electronically read out. CID array are a close cousin to
the diode arrays used in solid-state video cameras.
- Dynamically Modified
Proprietary Algorithm
- The encryption algorithm is constantly modified making deciphering a message more
difficult. If a specific algorithm is broken, in a very short time that algorithm will
have been modified rendering the broken algorithm useless.
- (empty)
- (empty)
- Network Circuitry
- A layout of physical hardware that makes up a route through a network. In the case of a
Global Network the physical route would include: fiber optic lines, copper lines, coax
lines, digital switches, satellites, line conditioning equipment, signal amplifiers, etc.

- Private Lines
A Private Line is a dedicated digital route through a telecommunication network. It is the
typical method that companies use to connect their local networks to a broader corporate
WAN. The Internet is fundamentally a collection of Private Lines. The definition of
Private Lines covers almost all physical WAN interconnect lines such as ISDN, T1, T2, T3, etc.
-
- Private Line Provisioning
Provisioning (i.e engineering) a telecommunications circuit,
where a line is a telecommunications circuit which is a reserved route within a
global network.
- Provisioning
Provisioning is the selection of a physical network route (the fiber or copper lines), the
allocation of hardware, and engineering the connections between the hardware to form a
telecommunications circuit. Typical hardware is: Digital switches, Multiplexers, and line
conditioners. Provisioning is the engineering of the topology (the physical transport
layer) that network data rides through.

- Remote Access
- The ability to connect to a computer from a remote location and exchange information or
remotely operate the system as if you were present.
- Smart Agent
- Smart Agent: n 1. A software robot or automation that learns from its mistakes
and successes. 2. A software robot or automation that bases decisions on a past history of
events or preferences.
-
- Software Robot
Robot: n. 1. A mechanical device that resembles a human being and is
capable of performing human tasks or behaving in a human manner. 2. A device that works
automatically or by remote control.
Software Robot: n 1. A disembodied mechanical robot that autonomously does the intellectual
work of a human being. 2. A disembodied mechanical robot that autonomously does work that
previously (to the advent of the robot) was considered an innately human process.
- T1 and T3 Lines
- T1 and T3 connections are high speed private line services. Typical commercial web
servers run on T1 lines. T1 provides 1.544 megabit/second speed and T3 provides 44.736
megabit/second speeds.
